and has had unique visitors. My Main Points I have a critical view on some aspects of feminism which I explain more in detail here (see contents in menu to the left). Please note that I do not have a negative view on all types of feminism and I think feminism can be something good. Men and women have equal value and this ideal should of course be upholded. The question is what value really is and how to best uphold it! Feminism is, unfortunately, a poorly defined concept both as a theory and as a political movement and this complicates the debate. In summary, I stand for the following seven statements in decreasing order of priority: 1. Feministic political action in Sweden is NOT fighting prejudice and discrimination. Instead, it is pushing the pointless and unrealizable goal of eliminating any measurable statistical difference between sexes, at the expense of neglecting basic human values. 2. Gender science, especially in Sweden, suffers from an incomplete picture of what male and female behavior is by neglecting fundamental biological facts. There are also many examples of bad or meaningless gender research. Therefore, the EXTREMELY strong influence from gender researchers on the Swedish society is worrying. 3. Simple numbers relating to male and female representation are not evidence of discrimination and do not necessary represent a problem since they can be a result of voluntarily choices. Social equality between men and women does NOT mean we actually have to be the same in all respects. We should focus on the happiness of people instead of being obsessed with statistical numbers. 4. Discrimination of men also occurs, but is usually ignored by the popular media and particularly ignored by feminists. In contrast to female discrimination, male discrimination is often STRUCTURAL in nature, i.e. more like a part of society and not the work of individual persons. (Some examples are drafting, childcare conflicts and convictions for criminals.) In addition, many feministic political actions support only women and are thus discriminating since there is no counterpart for men. 5. Discrimination of women surely occurs to some extent in our modern society, but the picture of women as victims is often exaggerated. When looking worldwide, there are women in developing countries whose suffering deserves MUCH more attention. 6. Modern feminism originates from a perspective that dictates a “war between the sexes”. Women should be provoked to “fight” collectively against men, who are viewed as organized oppressors. This is a strange and very contra productive way of dealing with gender related problems. Anger rather than rational thinking seems to be the driving force behind the feminist movement. 7. Gender LIBERATION is a good thing but a complete ELIMINATION of gender roles is not a good way to achieve liberation. There is nothing wrong with preserving those aspects of gender roles that are harmless, as long as assuming a gender role is a voluntary choice by an individual person. 8. Feminism dominates over other equally important social equality issues related to human attributes, such as race, sexuality, religion etc. |
